Asuran Scan or Pain inverter?
Ok well i am going to try and start vanquishing and doing all missions in HM for Masters. I have both of these skills but I dont know which one to bring on my Dervish, and my current bar already has 2 PvE skills that are required so I have a extra spot open for a third PvE skill.
So which do you think I should use? |

Pain Inverter any day, hands down. It became a mandatory skill on my bar for HM, it can handle elementalists in particular extremely well, since they always do +80dmg on hit and hit multiple targets, it's fairly common for them to kill themselvs almost instantly, even more if you're running an MM. Also, it's also a must for bosses.

Pain Inverter! A top 5 skill in terms of effectiveness in all of the game. Possibly top 3.

I'm assuming your running [[save yourselves], so what is the other skill that you need? Between these two, [[pain inverter], but [[asuran scan], is stupid good.

I prefer to prevent large amounts of damage instead of returning it. So I'd say Asuran Scan over Pain Inverter. I always take a Monk with Protective Spirit and a Ranger, Mesmer, or combination of the 2 with interrupts. Not much fun to get half your team wiped out or more just to do large amounts of damage to an enemy.

I take Pain Inverter just because I like seeing strings of pretty yellow numbers on my screen. Pain Inverter + any AoE + minions = lol kthx byebye.
I do like the scan too, though. |

on a dervish? neither. what kind of bar are you using anyway?
on the average bar pain inverter>scan, but derv really should use neither one. i would focus on increasing damage with each scythe attack. |

I usually take Pain Inverter because I like seeing all the numbers come up when the enemies wipe themselves. But as I often say "Remember, PI has to cause pain to have it inverted". It works best if you have tanks that can sustain the damage, or pets that can be rezzed afterwards, or disposable minions. Otherwise, Asuran Scan is probably better.

I think it depends what char you're playing.
Pain Inverter is a more passive skill to use, fire-and-forget and casting it on recharge. It fits on a caster bar better than melee. The foe does the damage to himself. For melee chars Asuran Scan works very nicely, since it increases the damage output quite heavily, especially with Asura maxed. It will also form part of your normal skill setups and activations while in battle while you are now putting out damage, especially with having Aura of Holy Might already. You can easy go into 100+ damage digits with these 2 skills. And with enemies in a ball around you when you hit, watch the pretty yellow numbers. I like both. Pain Inverter I normally use if no other skills are available from primary or sec lines, especially on casters. Try both and see for yourself. |
